Recently there was some news about using the NTP protocols to generate up to 400Gbps worth of DDoS traffic. That could be done by a botnet of like 1,200 infected hosts requesting an update and malform the request to direct it to a target IP or could use 3-4 hosts if the ISP allows for IP address spoofing.
